Galettes- Pancake day alternative, or addition?

Pancake Tuesday is one of my favourite days. In Ireland, Christian traditions dominate the popular culture, so pancake Tuesday is everywhere you look. In our house pancakes means crepes, not the thicken and equally delicious American style pancakes. So every year my Mum prepared a giant vat of batter in the afternoon, and let it rest on the counter, tempting us with thoughts of the upcoming feast. The hardest part was eating the normal dinner (always fish) before we could make the sweet pancakes. Well I don't repeat that torture in my home, for main meal we eat galettes!
